Job Description

Reporting to the Group Finance Director the Financial Controller will be a key hire.

He/She will have responsibility for running the day to day finance department which has a large transactional accounts staff (AP, AR, Credit Control, Payroll etc), Credit Control Manager, Payroll Manager, Finance Manager, Management Accountant and Financial Accountant.

Roles/Responsibilities

  • Complete responsibility for the operation and management of the finance function, ensuring appropriate financial procedures and controls
  • Preparation, review and presentation of Monthly Management Accounts
  • Group Consolidations for 9 subsidiary companies
  • Ad hoc project work to include capital investment appraisal and new product development and costings.
  • Oversee cash management to include collection and reporting and proper control of working capital information.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and dealing with audit queries
  • Preparation and submission of VAT and PAYE returns
  • Implementation of process controls and business planning tools
  • Provide hands-on leadership, mentoring, coaching, and development of the existing team.

Skills/Experience

  • Qualified Accountant with min. 4-5 years experience
  • Staff supervision experience essential
  • Good Communication skills are critical to the performance of this role as it involves managing the high volume transactional nature of the business through the operation as well as liaising directly with a significant number of people within and outside the organisation
  • Previous experience in a Manufacturing environment (Costings) will be well regarded

Education / Professional Qualifications

The ideal candidate would be ACA with Big 4 training with strong people management skills and had responsibility for group consolidations, financial/statutory reporting and have a very strong commercial business acumen.

  • The person will need to be an accomplished individual who understands how to get the best out of people, systems, controls and procedures.
  • Commercially, the individual will ideally have previous food/FMCG experience.
  • The successful candidate will be someone charged with ownership of a value-added finance function - one that engages proactively with the business and ensures that data entering the accounting systems are accurate, timely and meaningful to produce good company reporting and commentary.
  • To achieve these goals the FC will need to be a bridge-builder and meet regularly with on-site operations managers and other relevant staff.
  • You will have an enquiring mind and be a fast learner.
  • You should be someone who works toward departmental and personal goals and KPIs.
