Senior Java Engineer / Thrive / New York, NY
July 2, 2009 at 7:22 am

Thrive/New York, NY

hrive is building a useful and innovative consumer facing application that is not another social networking, mobile, or video app, and we're looking for you.

Our application aims to empower people by giving them more control over one of the top stressors in their lives. More than a little disruptive to a predatory industry, the goal of our application is to solve an interesting and complicated problem, and ultimately have a positive social impact.

We are looking to expand our core engineering team of confident and experienced developers. This a hands on role: you will directly contribute to what we build and how we build it. More importantly, you will also have a voice in every aspect of our growth, from development strategy to marketing to product development.

In addition to being friendly and easy to get along with, we only ask that you understand and enjoy the unique pressures and rewards of working at a startup environment. We like to have a lot of fun and provide our employees with a superabundance of snacks, however nothing makes us happier than being productive. Our development methodology is pragmatic but agile. We aren't your typical New York City IT department or tech firm; we are a small progressive team with a west coast mentality. We love living and working in NYC and we don't think the west coast has a monopoly on entrepreneurial engineers who want to build a quality product -- that's why we're looking for you.

We offer a salary (based on experience), full medical and dental, and a reasonable relocation package.

If you want to solve interesting problems and help people at the same time, send over your resume to people@loudwaterlabs.com. Please include a brief description of yourself, what you've done, and what you're looking for next.

Qualifications:

* A self motivated, team player with excellent communication skills.
* Well-rounded problem solving skills.
* Solid server-side Java experience. We will be leveraging open source Java technologies such as JBoss, SEAM, Hibernate, PostgreSQL, XFire and Drools.
* Strong knowledge of OO practices.
* Experience in designing and deploying a functionally complex web service that scales is a plus.
* Experience implementing algorithms and rule based systems is a plus.
* Ability to work in a fast development environment. (We work through ideas quickly).

If learning more intrigues you and you think you have something to contribute, send over your resume to people AT justthrive DOT com. To start with, tell us why we should be excited about having you join our ranks, and we'll go from there.

AEP Snapshot

The Audience Engagement Platform (AEP) is a new, innovative technology solution that will dramatically reduce the barriers to audience participation and social involvement in the arts. AEP is currently in the design stage with substantial financial backing from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation. AEP's relationships in the arts, business, and technology communities run deep, and its creator has and will be presenting AEP widely at major conferences, including FORTUNE Brainstorm: Tech and PopTech. AEP has already attracted major articles and media attention from news sources including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Fast Company. Chris Elam and the non-profit Misnomer Dance Theater have incubated, popularized, and developed AEP to its current stage.

AEP Background and Vision

The American non-profit arts and cultural sector generates $134 billion in economic activity every year. That represents a lot of people of diverse backgrounds enjoying theater, music, dance and visual art. However, while there are many individual examples of isolated innovations in the arts, most audience experiences of the non-profit arts are often one-dimensional: audiences buy tickets and sit in seats, or tour a museum on their own. There are typically few opportunities for audiences to interact or connect directly with the artists. Likewise, it is rare that audiences can experience the dynamics of the creative process, network with people with similar arts interests, or deepen their engagement with artists or art forms they like. This slows the development of arts-centered community and limits artists' exposure. Furthermore, artists and arts organizations often lack simple and economical solutions to effectively interact directly with their audiences, manage their businesses with up-to-date web-based technology, and build their audiences, revenues, and bases of support over time.

The Audience Engagement Platform is a compelling suite of digital tools and services for artists, arts organizations and audiences that address these needs, intended to horizontally assist a broad range of artists and organizations. It will facilitate social networking connections among and between artists and audiences, increase the size and diversity of audiences, and jumpstart individual's deep engagement with and contribution to artists, arts institutions, and the creative process.
